I can lay on the bed with my three-year-old and it feels as sturdy as if it was a solid piece of furniture instead of a bunch of metal rods. It has two adjustable heights, we are using it at the lowest setting with no box spring (it does not require a boxspring but you can use one) and the height is similar to a toddler bed, which is perfect for her. When she gets older we can raise it to the higher level, and put a box spring on it. I can see these beds lasting until they are in their teen years. Oh and also, it is really cute!
