Taking up the second bedroom as a guest bedroom didn't make sense, since I needed an office. This Murphy bed is the perfect compromise. The space it takes up in the room is so much less than the traditional bed that I had originally put in the room. It looks like a large chest and fits nicely with the decor. While I was concerned about it requiring some assembly, there was much less work than I had anticipated. Assembly was pretty simple and the bed was ready to go in about an hour, including unpacking the parts. I had worried that the bed might not be as sturdy as it could be, but it really seems to be pretty solid and well made. The included mattress is comfortable and fits perfectly into the cabinet. No one has slept on it yet, but my husband and I laid on it long enough to know that we liked the feel of it. It's a great way to have room for guests to visit without giving up too much needed space. I would have given it five stars but there was a hole for one of the handles that had to be drilled since it didn't originally go all the way through. We had some issues with some of the screw holes and needed to adjust them with a drill. Have a drill handy because we had to use one in several places where it didn't say to. When you get the memory foam mattress, it's rolled so tightly that you'll think there's no way it's 6\" high. But don't worry, once it's unrolled, it expands to it's full size. I measured it against a queen mattress that we have. The width was exactly the same, but it was about 2\" shorter. It's very comfortable and we've had one guest use it for several days with no issues. One with base already pre-assembled. Another with all the pieces to assemble the top of the chest. The third with the mattress. All were very well packaged. There were no missing pieces or missing hardware and I was able to assemble the chest by myself in about 2 hours, counting time to unpack everything. I had to drill out a couple of the holes for the handles, as they were not drilled to the correct depth to recess the screws. My main complaint with the chest was that it had a very poor paint finish. Many places were lacking wood filler and there were many imperfections in the paint. I contacted the manufacturer about the issues and sent an email with pictures and they promptly replaced the poorly finished items. Sadly, the replacements had the same poor paint finish. Also, several of the predrilled holes were drilled too large causing the screws to spin freely when trying to tighten them. Toothpicks and several extra mintues solved those problems. The mattress is very comfortable and we have had no complaints about it from guests. We did have to air the mattress out for 3 weeks before the smell subsided. The pull out casters work well and support guest weight well. FYI.. My only real criticism is that the screws for the cabinet and drawer handles are 1/4 inch too short; I had to run to Lowe's to find screws to replace these. Also, you can't put away a \"made bed\", as the mattress tri-folds...so while the drawers add storage, you'll need that storage for pillows and bedding. The bed was delivered and thank goodness I had paid for the extra delivery service for placement in the room and disposal of the boxes. Unfortunately, I was missing one handle and the screws used to secure the handles are much too short. There is not enough of screw length to grab the handle. The handles are also positioned in a way that you need super long arms to assemble correctly. I had to make a trip to Home Depot to get screws that were 1/4 inch longer and used washers to make the screws fit the handles. My dad also came over to help with the tough handles. I have emailed the company regarding the screws and for another handle. Keep a drill handy just in case. Like in other reviews, there are some blemishes in the pain/scrapes that look like happened in packaging (not unpackaging). We bought the white glove delivery and that was worth $49.99 for delivery to that room, unpacking and disposal of boxes. The finished piece is wonderful!
